Locard's Exchange Principle: Every contact you make with another person, place, or object results in an exchange of physical materials.
I believe that wholeheartedly, but I believe it goes a step farther. Every event that happens to you throughout your life will leave trace on you.
My mom would tell me that from the time I was about 7 all I wanted to do is grow up and help stop the bad guys, she blamed it on Sunday night movies...Police Women, Get Christy Love, Columbo....
But there was one event that left it's trace on me, it happen when I was around the age of 12. My parents managed an apartment building (we also lived there), during a party one night, at one of the renter's apartment, a man brutally raped, beat, and then murder his estranged wife. Of course I was to young to know everything but in a small town when you spend everyday at your mom's newspaper you find out facts whether you wanted to or not, it didn't help when part of your job was to pick up the press releases from the courthouse across from the office. That event changed me and the way I saw the world, I start thinking about how someone could do that to another person, what could cause that kind of behavior, how are they going to be stopped and/or punished. I started having very strong reaction to the abuse of women and becoming very out-spoken about it and trust me most people found it a little strange that a 13 year old would be so vocal about a "grown-up" problem.
Sadly life got in the way of me finishing my dreams, but now that I have become home bound I have been wondering how can I use that knowledge and in a way that would be enjoyable to me. I love writing and helping others with their writing, so I am offering my services as a beta. Thanks to my mom and working for her newspaper growing up I have become a damn good editor, i.e grammar, speling (joking) and consistency of said story-line. Where I can really help is with the science part of the stories, making sure you have that correct (law, forensics, psy.) ...if I don't know it, have the book on it, I know where to find it.
Just email if you need my help or have any questions.
Thanks,
Susan
Hope to hear from you soon!
